Job summary

Selwyns Travel Ltd. is seeking two Traffic Supervisors to lead day-to-day transport operations, ensuring safe and punctual coach services and efficient fleet use. A strong focus on compliance with DVSA Earned Recognition and regulatory standards will be key.

You will oversee driver scheduling, holiday management, route planning, and liaison with maintenance and sales teams to meet operational demands. The role requires experience in coach transport and solid IT skills.

Qualifications

• Full PCV license and full driving licence required.
• Experience in coach/bus transport operations preferred.
• Knowledge of fleet management and driver compliance systems advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day coach operations, ensuring services run safely, punctually, and efficiently.
• Drive on a school contract Monday to Friday between 7.00 am to 9.00 am and 2.30 pm during term time.
• Support the Operations Manager in driver scheduling, route planning, and resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with transport regulations, licensing, tachograph rules, and health & safety standards.
• Management of drivers’ holiday and absence requests and allocation/rescheduling of work.
• Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure fleet availability, roadworthiness, and defect reporting.
• Coordinate with Sales to ensure fleet availability and driver planning as required.
• Monitor KPIs including vehicle utilisation, fuel usage and payroll timesheets.
• Handle incident management, breakdown response, and customer service escalations.
• Deliver driver compliance under DVSA Earned Recognition standard.
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and internal departments.
• Support policy implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

We are seeking 2 organised and proactive Traffic Supervisors to support the day-to-day management of transport operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient fleet utilisation, compliance with transport regulations, and high levels of service delivery acting as the first point of contact for drivers and customers with operational or service issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day coach operations, ensuring services run safely, punctually, and efficiently acting as the drivers, customers and clients direct contact for operational issues
• Driving on a school contract Monday to Friday between 7.00 am to 9.00 am and 2.30 pm during term time
• Support the Operations Manager in delivering driver scheduling, route planning, and resource allocation (driver and vehicle) to meet operational demands as required
• Ensure compliance with transport regulations, licensing, tachograph rules, and health & safety standards – full understanding of UK Domestic Hours and EU Drivers hours and the Working Time Regulations, and DVSA Earned Recognition standard
• Management of drivers’ holiday requests, absence requests and allocation/rescheduling of work
• Support the Operations Manager in coordinating with the Maintenance teams to ensure fleet availability, roadworthiness, and defect reporting as required
• Support the Operations Manager in coordinating with the Sales teams to ensure fleet availability and optimum vehicle and driver planning as required
• Monitor operational KPIs including vehicle utilisation, fuel usage and cost control (includes driver payroll timesheet preparation reconciled with payable duty hours and tacho records)
• Handle incident management, breakdown response (with support from Maintenance), and customer service escalations
• Deliver company driver compliance matters in line with the DVSA Earned Recognition standard
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and internal departments
• Support the Operations Manager in implementing company policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
• Knowledge of coach or passenger transport operations
• Understanding of transport legislation, safety, and compliance requirements
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
• Confident communicator with good interpersonal skills
• Proficient in Distinctive Systems applications (Coach Manager, Vehicle Maintenance System (VMS)) and Microsoft Office (strong Excel skills) advantageous

Qualifications & Experience:

• Previous experience within the coach/ bus transport industry
• Knowledge of fleet management and driver compliance systems
• Full driving license; PCV license essential

Working Conditions:

• 4 on, 4 off work pattern, 12-hour shifts (6am to 6pm)
• Office-based with regular on-site and depot presence
• Reports to: Operations Manager
• Direct reports: Driving staff
