Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Test Engineer for our Power T&D team, based in Leeds. The role focuses on fault location, commissioning and testing across underground cable systems, ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

You will support operational delivery, coordinate RAMS, manage test equipment, and work closely with project teams, clients and subcontractors to drive efficient completion of workloads.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in power/utility sector.
• Experience with EHV/LV cable testing and commissioning.
• Certifications: BESC (Underground Cables / Substations / OHL), NSI 6 & 8, CCNSG Safety Passport.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations (CDM).
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out EHV/LV commissioning and testing on underground cables and associated systems.
• Supporting fault location activities across the DNO network.
• Ensuring all testing activities comply with national standards, legislation and client requirements.
• Producing and reviewing RAMS (risk assessments and method statements).
• Preparing and completing test documentation per company procedures.
• Managing and coordinating test equipment, including calibration and site readiness.
• Working with project teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure efficient delivery.
