Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Principal Temporary Works Designer to join the Power T&D team in Glasgow or Derby. You will lead the design and coordination of civil and temporary works from feasibility through to detail design, ensuring safe, compliant solutions for power transmission projects.

Key responsibilities include safety by design, design checks, and mentoring junior engineers, with a focus on upskilling and use of design software across multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree level education in civil engineering and/or geotechnical engineering.
• Chartered Engineer preferred with ICE or IStructE.
• Extensive experience supervising sub-consultants or subcontractors.
• Proven design experience of civil engineering works.
• Strong management of civil or temporary works design.

Responsibilities

• Undertake design and coordination of civil and temporary works designs from feasibility to detail design, installation and removal.
• Ensure timely delivery and high-quality designs with calculations and drawings compliant with BS/Eurocodes/ENA.
