Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in Derby is recruiting a Senior Structural Design Engineer for its Power T&D team. The role delivers design calculations, drawings and documents for safe, constructible solutions and reports to the Design Delivery Manager – Structures.

The position involves leading design activities, reviewing work, and guiding other engineers to ensure quality outcomes on complex projects. The role requires a civil/structural or mechanical engineering degree, strong analysis skills, and

Qualifications

• Excellent structural analysis skills and ability to solve problems from first principles.
• Knowledge of lattice type structures and relevant design standards.
• Experience with European and UK structural codes and software tools.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead structural engineer for complex projects under the Design Delivery Manager – Structures.
• Analyse contract documents to determine scope, design parameters and budget.
• Ensure delivery in line with scope, parameters and engineering programme.
• Review designs and calculations for safety, manufacturability and best practice.
• Produce designs and calculations for review and safe construction.
• Apply Safety and Sustainability by Design and CDM regulations.
• Assist in resolving complex design issues.
• Communicate across functions, consultants, clients and operations to deliver projects.
• Visit sites/offices to discuss design issues and develop solutions.
• Analyse tender documents to produce engineering tenders with cost allocations and risks.
• Liaise with senior engineers and apprentices as required.
• Support Chief Engineer – Structures with technical improvements.
• Deliver training as required.
