Job summary

Barnet and Southgate College is seeking a Designated Safeguarding Officer (Term Time Only) based at Boreham Wood Football Academy. The role leads safeguarding across the College, handles referrals, and develops training while collaborating with external agencies to protect vulnerable students.

This term-time post (38 weeks/year) requires previous safeguarding expertise, strong record-keeping, and excellent communication, with travel between campuses as needed.

Qualifications

• A relevant Level 3 qualification.
• English and Maths at Grade 5-9 or equivalent.
• Designated Safeguarding Officer training completed within the last 3 years.
• Experience with child protection procedures, referral processes and legislation.
• Experience of adult safeguarding and referral processes.
• Experience of multi‑agency working.
• Experience with vulnerable students in mainstream / complex needs settings.
• Experience of Serious Safeguarding Reviews.
• Excellent report writing and record keeping.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships.
• Confidentiality, GDPR and information-sharing awareness.
• IT literate with safeguarding systems and MS Office; willingness to travel across campuses.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
• Willingness to travel and work across all main College campuses.

Responsibilities

• Act as a safeguarding knowledge hub across the College.
• Lead referrals and manage casework following KCSIE and relevant guidance.
• Maintain safeguarding records for compliance and inspection readiness.
• Lead a specialist safeguarding area and share best practice.
• Plan and deliver safeguarding training for staff and students.
• Build partnerships with internal teams and external agencies.
• Support statutory obligations under safeguarding legislation.
