Job summary

Kier is seeking a Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our team across UK locations, including Manchester. The role covers temporary works design and checking, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support from concept through delivery.

You will contribute to complex projects while leading simpler assignments, with agile/hybrid working and a 40‑hour week. Chartered status or ongoing progression is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Practically-minded with civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) or equivalent experience.
• Have experience of temporary works design and/or management, or other practical construction experience.
• Have strong organisational and communication skills, and enjoy working as part of collaborative teams.

Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments.
• Acting as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams.
• Developing yourself, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems.
• Support tenders and preconstruction planning, and provide technical support to construction-stage issues.

Job DescriptionTemporary Works Design EngineerWe're looking for civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desiredHours: 40 hours per week - flexibility on hours available if desiredSalary: Starting from £40k per annumSector: Working across all sectors of the built environmentJoin us as a Temporary Works Design Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services.
