Job summary

Kier is seeking a Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our civil, structural and geotechnical team across the UK. You'll contribute to temporary works design, checking, and construction support on a broad mix of infrastructure projects and major schemes.

With up to 1-2 days per week from home and a 40-hour week, this hybrid role offers flexibility across Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, London and more as part of Kier's delivery portfolio.

Qualifications

• Practically-minded with grounding in civil, structural and geotechnical principles
• Experience applying design standards and safe buildability considerations
• Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills
• Experience in temporary works design and/or construction environments
• Ability to lead technical scopes and manage teams across projects

Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges

Senior Temporary Works Engineer

We're looking for civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

• Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired
• Hours: 40 hours per week - flexibility on hours available if desired
• Salary: Starting from £50k per annum

Job Description

Join us as a Senior Temporary Works Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline - supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through, or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main Responsibilities

Qualifications and Desirables

• Are you... Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?
• An Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with an equivalent level of experience?
• Do you... Enjoy applying first principles thinking to real-world construction challenges, combining a keen eye for detail with sound engineering judgement, a focus on safety, buildability, sustainability and a flair for innovation and creative problem-solving?
• Have experienced of temporary works design and/ or management, or other practical construction experience?
