Job summary

Kier is seeking a Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our UK team with locations in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and Plymouth—hybrid work with 1–2 days from home.

40 hours per week; salary from £50k. You’ll lead temporary works design, check buildability and support tenders across a major project portfolio, as part of Kier’s 100-strong team and its £11bn+ project pipeline.

Qualifications

• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) with equivalent experience.
• Strong grounding in civil, structural and geotechnical principles and knowledge of applicable design standards.
• Experience in temporary works design and/or construction-related work; strong organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Leading delivery of temporary works design, checks and compliance.
• Reviewing permanent designs for buildability and CDM/SHE/QA compliance.
• Supporting tenders, preconstruction planning, and construction-stage issue resolution.
• Acting as project lead for multiple projects, managing scope, programme, budget and relationships.

Senior Temporary Works Engineer

We're looking for civil, structural and/orgeotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours: 40 hours per week – flexibility on hours available if desired

Salary: Starting from £50k per annum

As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

• Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?

What will you be responsible for?

Leading the delivery of a broad range of construction engineering services, including some or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.
