Job summary

Kier is seeking a Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our team across multiple UK locations. The role focuses on temporary works design, checking, and supporting major infrastructure projects from concept through delivery.

You will lead technical scope, manage teams and collaborate with preconstruction and construction colleagues, while upholding safety, buildability and sustainability principles.

Qualifications

• Practically-minded with civil, structural and geotechnical engineering principles.
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng).
• Experience in temporary works design/management or related construction experience.

Responsibilities

• Producing and reviewing design outputs (calculations, drawings, 3D models, reports, risk assessments) with CDM/SHE/QA compliance.
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing scope, programme and budget.
• Developing team capability and improving processes to meet current and future challenges.

Senior Temporary Works Engineer

We're looking for civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

• Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired
• Hours: 40 hours per week - flexibility on hours available if desired
• Salary: Starting from £50k per annum

Job Description

Join us as a Senior Temporary Works Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline - supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through, or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges

• An Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with an equivalent level of experience?
• Do you... Enjoy applying first principles thinking to real-world construction challenges, combining a keen eye for detail with sound engineering judgement, a focus on safety, buildability, sustainability and a flair for innovation and creative problem-solving?
• Have experienced of temporary works design and/ or management, or other practical construction experience?
