Job description

We are a friendly and supportive GP practice, based in Bude.

We are looking for a receptionist to cover for around 3 months whilst one of our staff is on extended leave. The role is for 4 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).

The role will be to answer the telephone or work on the front desk to deal with all patient queries and book appointments as per our protocols.

Phoning patients as advised by the GP.

Dealing with new patient registrations.

Ideally you will have worked in a GP practice previously but we can train someone with the right customer service skills.

Main duties of the job
  • Dealing with patient queries.
  • Booking appointments.
  • Checking patients in who have arrived for their appointment.
  • Telephoning patients to book them into an available appointment.
  • Monitoring and dealing with online requests.

About us

Stratton Medical Centre is a busy town practice on the outskirts of Bude. We have over 10,700 patients who are looked after by an integrated team of 9 GPs, 2 Nurse Practitioners, a Paramedic, 2 Nurses, 3 Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist.

We are part of a wider Primary Care Network (PCN) where the team at Stratton benefit from Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, Home Visiting Paramedics, Mental Health Practitioners and Social Prescribers.

We are a well organised team that is led by a Practice Manager and 2 GP Partners. We benefit from being able to respond quickly to situations and to listening to our staff to ensure that we remain a happy, well functioning team.

We all meet every morning to ensure we are aware of the issues for the day and pick up any concerns that may be present.

We also have regular team meetings, for all staff, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to input into decisions or raise concerns.

Job Summary:

To provide care navigation and support to all patients and allied health professionals. To provide administrative support and services to all members of the Practice team.

Job responsibilities:

Appointments

  • To ensure total familiarity with the patient appointments system including routine and emergency bookings and protocols.
  • To book appointments and recalls for patients and clinicians, either on the telephone or face-to-face at the desk.
  • To be aware of changes in the implementation of bookings as needed.
  • To greet patients at the desk and monitor arrivals, monitoring the flow of patients in the waiting areas to ensure the appointment system accurately reflects the arrival of patients.

Maintenance of Patient Registrations

  • To be familiar with the registration process for all types of patient (temporary, full or Out of Area) and apply as requested.
  • To maintain administrative patient information accurately (address details, telephone numbers) and update as required to reflect accurately every patients details and to ensure confidentiality.
