Job summary

Abingdon and Witney College is seeking an Independent Living Skills Technician to support learners aged 16 to 25 with EHCPs. You will help develop practical life skills, independence and employability through engaging activities, both on campus and in the community.

The role works with the SEND Support team to help learners progress towards adulthood in a supportive, inclusive environment. Term-time, permanent contract with October 2026 start date.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 qualification.
• Experience with young people aged 16–25.
• Experience in an educational environment.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Confident using IT systems and maintaining records.

Salary: £25,458 - £26,290per annum (pro-rata salary £21,115 - £21,805 per annum)

Hours per week: 37

Working pattern: Monday to Thursday 7.5 hours, Friday 7 hours

Weeks per Annum: 38 weeks per annum (43.13 including holidays)

Location: Across Abingdon & Witney College campuses

Contract type: Permanent (term-time only)

Start date: October 2026

This rewarding role focuses on supporting young people aged 16 to 25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to develop the practical life skills, personal development and employability skills needed for successful adult lives. Working alongside our Independent Living Skills Lecturer and wider SEND team, you will help learners make meaningful progress towards their Preparation for Adulthood outcomes.

About the Role

As an Independent Living Skills Technician, you will:

• Support learners to develop independence, confidence and life skills.
• Deliver and facilitate practical learning activities that promote independent living and employability skills.
• Work closely with curriculum staff, families and the SEND Support team to ensure positive outcomes for learners.
• Encourage learners to make informed choices, advocate for themselves, solve problems and increase their independence.
• Monitor and record progress towards EHCP outcomes.
• Support learning both within college and in community settings.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and learner-centred environment.
• Help learners prepare for the next stage of their lives, whether that is further education, employment or independent living.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a minimum Level 3 qualification.
• Has experience working with young people aged 16 to 25.
• Has experience working within an educational environment.
• Demonstrates excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Is confident using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
• Can work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Holds a driving licence and can work flexibly across college campuses and within community settings.
• Is committed to inclusive practice and supporting learners with additional needs.

Desirable experience includes:

• A teaching or coaching qualification and experience supporting learners with SEND.
