Job summary

TSR Legal is seeking a Technical Claims Handler in Bristol to manage a portfolio of professional indemnity claims from first notification to resolution. The role operates under delegated authority, focusing on liability, policy coverage, and quantum while delivering excellent service to insurers, brokers, and policyholders.

You’ll mentor junior team members, provide technical guidance, and uphold high standards of claims handling within a collaborative, hybrid-working environment.

Qualifications

• Experience handling professional indemnity or technical insurance claims.
• Knowledge of claims handling processes and regulatory requirements.
• Strong investigation, analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage a busy caseload with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Commercial approach with good client service.

Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of professional indemnity claims under delegated authority.
• Assess liability, indemnity, policy coverage, and quantum with minimal supervision.
• Investigate complex claims and identify appropriate resolution strategies.
• Negotiate settlements within delegated authority limits.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations for insurers where matters fall outside delegated authority.
• Effectively manage and liaise with panel solicitors on behalf of insurers.
• Build and maintain relationships with insurers, brokers, policyholders, and external suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with SLAs, KPIs, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate reserves and cost control throughout each claim.
• Keep electronic case management systems up to date with complete records.
• Support development of junior team members through coaching and training.
• Stay up to date with legal developments and share knowledge across the team.
