Technical Expert – Chemical Catalysts

Location: UK, Germany

The role:

As a Technical Expert you will support commercial sales, coordinate technical support with operations, and provide technical input across the global service team. You will represent Johnson Matthey at international conferences, collaborate with sales to promote CT products, contribute to account planning, and engage in new product development by identifying market opportunities and gathering customer feedback.

Key responsibilities:
  • Prepare technical proposals and guarantees to support commercial sales.
  • Familiarise yourself with CT product manufacturing and coordinate technical support for customers.
  • Provide technical input and support to the global technical service team as required.
  • Represent Johnson Matthey at relevant international conferences.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to promote CT products and services, including technical input during customer visits.
  • Contribute to medium‑ and long‑term account planning activities.
  • Engage in new product development by identifying market opportunities, providing technical input, and seeking customer feedback to solve unmet needs.
Key skills that will help you succeed:
  • Degree in a scientific/technical discipline (Chemistry or Chemical Engineering).
  • Significant experience in heterogeneous catalysis – base metal and/or PGM.
  • Technical background in a diverse range of chemical reactions and catalytic processes, including hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, oxidation, amination, etc.
  • Experience in process development or supporting plant operations in the petrochemicals and renewables industries.
  • Strong technical ability and willingness to develop competencies quickly and on the job.
  • Experience in a technical customer‑facing role would be a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
