Job summary

COWI A/S is seeking a Tunnels Director to be based at any UK office. You will lead on complex tunnel and underground space projects, provide technical delivery leadership, and support business development and client liaison across a portfolio of tunnelling work.

You will oversee design checks, mentor engineers, and drive excellence in soil and rock mechanics, groundwater and shaft/ excavation design. A chartered engineer with leadership experience is essential.

Qualifications

  • Hold a chartered status (CEng).
  • Extensive tunnelling and underground space design/construction experience in consulting or contracting.
  • Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, groundwater behaviour and soil/structure interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver highly complex technical expertise from concept to design and construction with emphasis on soft ground and hard rock tunnelling.
  • Oversee technical management and delivery performance of a portfolio of projects.
  • Ensure design, assessments and checks comply with industry standards, codes, and company procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage external sub-contractors, designers, and design checkers.
  • Plan and develop tunnelling expertise across the UK&I business.
  • Support management of engineering and engineering geologist teams.
  • Liaise with clients and identify business development opportunities.
  • Prepare bids and tenders as required.
