The role will combine hands-on litigation work, technical supervision, coaching and continuous improvement, ensuring that claims are handled to the highest technical standards while consistently meeting client SLAs, KPIs and regulatory requirements.

You will work closely with the Technical Manager, Team Leaders and senior stakeholders to identify areas for improvement, develop technical capability across the team and ensure consistently excellent client service.

Ideally you will be a qualified Solicitor or CILEX Lawyer, with appropriate practice rights, and bring strong and current experience in Motor Recovery claims, either claimant or defendant side.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain your own caseload of fully litigated Motor Recovery claims, ensuring work is handled to a high technical standard.

Supervise and support file handlers in line with the relevant competency framework.

Provide ongoing technical coaching, mentoring and development to members of the team.

Support the development of pre-litigation handlers, claims handlers issuing proceedings and those handling Small Claims Track matters.

Help develop new starters towards achieving their first financial authority within an agreed timeframe.

Identify individual and team training requirements and work with the Technical Manager to address them.

Manage technical performance issues and support individuals through performance improvement plans where required.

Continuously review workflows, processes and claims handling practices to identify:

Technical and operational risks

Emerging trends and behaviours

Areas of avoidable litigation

Opportunities to improve client service and KPI performance

Recommend practical strategies and solutions to improve quality, efficiency and outcomes.

Support the implementation of agreed workflows, processes and technical strategies, monitoring their effectiveness and ensuring consistency across the team.

Work alongside Team Leaders and senior management to drive improvements in quality, client care and technical performance.

Assist with the development and delivery of onboarding and ongoing technical training.

Identify and analyse trends arising from internal referrals and quality issues, helping to drive appropriate resolutions.

Deal with technical referrals from the wider team and escalas more complex matters where appropriate.

Support client review meetings and contribute to discussions around performance, quality and continuous improvement.

Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant SRA Standards and Regulations and internal quality frameworks.

Consistently deliver against agreed personal, technical and business objectives.

You’ll ideally have:

Essential experience of litigation and managing your own caseload.

A thorough understanding of the claims process and the importance of delivering against client requirements, SLAs and KPIs.

Previous experience of supervising, mentoring, coaching or training other legal professionals.

The ability to identify technical issues, anticipate potential problems and develop practical solutions.

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and work calmly under pressure.

Confidence in challenging existing processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.

The ability to motivate, develop and engage colleagues at different levels of experience.

Good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint would be advantageous.

This is a role for someone who wants to have an impact beyond their own caseload.

You'll be someone who enjoys developing people, improving technical standards and finding better ways of working, while still retaining a strong understanding of the day-to-day realities of Motor Litigation.

You'll need to be confident enough to challenge where necessary, approachable enough to coach and support others, and commercially aware enough to understand the importance of delivering consistently strong outcomes for clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Motor Litigation professional looking to take the next step into a technical leadership and development-focused position within a growing specialist legal environment.
