Job summary

Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking dedicated teaching assistants to support learners outside mainstream education in an EOTAS setting. The role offers a salary of £23,800.90 - £24,978.13 plus access to training and development opportunities, with flexibility across sites including a pupil referral unit to help learners with emotional, behavioural or medical needs.

A Level 3 qualification (NVQ3) is required or desirable, plus experience with children.

Job description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who need alternative approaches to education? We are seeking dedicated and resilient teaching assistants to join our supportive team within an EOTAS (educated other than at school). This is a unique opportunity to support learners who are not currently accessing mainstream education due to emotional, behavioural or medical needs. This is an exciting time for EOTAS. We have a brand new multi-million-pound Centre for Skills and Learning provision which opened in September 2026 which offers a modern learning environment with vocational offers for pupils along with a community facility with a sports hall, 3G pitch, climbing wall, bike maintenance workshop. This is a unique opportunity to support learners who are not currently accessing mainstream education due to emotional, behavioural or medical needs. You will need to demonstrate patience, creativity and a trauma informed approach and be able to work flexibility across different sites, including a pupil referral unit. Relevant, recent experience is desirable. For the role, we ask that you have:

• A relevant Level 3 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales. For example NVQ3 for Teaching Assistants or experience.
• Experience of working with children of relevant age.
• Training in the relevant strategies eg literacy and/or in particular curriculum or learning area eg sign language, dyslexia, ICT, Maths, English, CACHE etc We have excellent benefits including the Local Government Pension Scheme and staff discount schemes.
