Job summary

Axcis Education is recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional communication needs in a welcoming Smethwick mainstream primary school. You will work closely with non-verbal pupils, helping them access learning and develop communication skills in a patient, resilient manner.

Responsibilities include using PECS, Makaton, visual aids and other strategies, building strong relationships, and collaborating with teachers and SEND staff.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in education or care settings.
• Desirable experience supporting SEND, autism, or communication needs.
• Willingness to learn alternative communication techniques.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Full-time availability, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with communication needs within a mainstream primary school.
• Work with non-verbal pupils to access learning and engagement.
• Utilise PECS, Makaton, visual aids, and other communication strategies.
• Build positive relationships and support emotional regulation.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEND staff to foster inclusion.
• Contribute to a safe, supportive learning environment.
