Job summary

Coal Clough Academy in Burnley is seeking a passionate Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. You will work with students on a vocational pathway, supporting them to achieve their full potential through practical, real-world learning experiences.

You will assist with lesson delivery under supervision, promote positive behaviour, build confidence, and help pupils develop communication and independent study skills.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at level 9–5.
• Child Care/NVQ or equivalent Level 3 qualification (desirable).
• Experience working with children facing barriers to learning.
• Strong behaviour management techniques.
• Able to work as part of a class team and support planned lessons.
• Ability to break down tasks into small steps and give feedback.
• Good rapport with children and strong teamwork.
• Good time management and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils under guidance to achieve accelerated progress.
• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop communication, behaviour management, independence and social skills.
• Provide supervision and guidance for non-lesson-based activities.
• Provide feedback to pupils on progress under teacher guidance.
• Promote good pupil behaviour and manage conflicts per school policies.

The Job:

Coal Clough Academy is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for apassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring individual to support students on a vocational pathway, helping them to achieve their full potential through practical, real-world learning experiences.

What does this job do?

1. To work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff (or HLTA leading the class in the short-term absence of the class teacher), to implement planning and assessment, working with individual or small groups of pupils to achieve high levels of accelerated pupil progress.
2. To support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, promoting the inclusion of all pupils by developing their communication skills, supporting them to manage their behaviour, developing independence and social skills and to take responsibility for monitoring/reporting on the impact of class-based interventions.
3. To provide supervision and guidance and learning opportunities in all non-lesson-based activities.
4. Providing feedback to pupils in relation to their progress and achievement, under the guidance of the teacher
5. Promoting good pupil behaviour and dealing with conflicts and incidents in line with school policies

What are the job requirements?

1. GCSE or Equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics at level 9 – 5.
2. Child Care/NVQ/ other relevant qualification (related to education is desirable) at level 3.
3. Experience of working with children in an educational setting in particular meeting the needs of children who may face barriers to learning.
4. Experienced in sound behaviour management techniques.
5. Is able to work as a member of a class team to support planned lessons.
6. Can break down given planned tasks into small steps of learning and can give focused feedback on progress made and next steps.
7. Has the ability to relate well to children.
8. Ability to work as part of a team.
9. Good time management and organisational skills.

About Coal Clough Academy:

Coal Clough Academy is an 11 - 16 Alternative Provision for young people, many of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.

We are making exciting and positive changes to our school and are very proud of the provision we offer. At Key Stage 3, the focus is on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain 5 GCSEs to ensure a successful transition to college, training or employment.

Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and can receive the extra support they require. Students are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs. In addition to the core curriculum, we provide rich and varied curriculum opportunities ranging from vocational courses, academic programmes and programmes that support pupils' personal and social development.
