Job summary

Horbury Primary Academy is seeking a proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in Wakefield. The role supports teaching staff, covers PPA, leads whole-class learning, and helps plan, deliver, and assess learning.

The successful candidate will have HLTA Level 4 or be working towards it, Level 2 English and Maths, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to inclusive education that helps every pupil thrive.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status (Level 4) or working towards.
  • Level 2 in English and Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable about child development and how children learn.
  • Able to organise, lead, and motivate a team.

Responsibilities

Job description

Horbury Primary Academy isseeking to appoint a proactive, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Higher LevelTeaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate willwork closely with teaching staff to support high-quality learning, promote aninclusive environment, and inspire pupils to achieve their full potential bothacademically and personally.

The Higher-Level TeachingAssistant will play a pivotal role in supporting teaching and learning acrossthe academy, providing comprehensive PPA cover for class teachers and leadingwhole-class learning with confidence, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Workingclosely with teaching staff, the ideal candidate will contribute to the fullplanning, delivery, and assessment cycle, helping to ensure that all pupilsreceive an engaging and enriching educational experience.

The postholder will also supportthe effective management of classroom behaviour, creating a positive, calm, andpurposeful learning environment where every child feels valued, safe, andsupported to succeed. This role requires a proactive and adaptable professionalwith excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can workindependently, use initiative effectively, and build strong relationships withpupils, staff, and families. A commitment to inclusion is essential, withthe ability to identify and overcome barriers to learning, respond sensitivelyto the diverse needs of pupils, and provide targeted support that enables everychild to thrive both academically and personally.

The position is on apart-time basis working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.30am to 12.00pm, and1.00pm to 3.30pm.
