Job summary

Pleckgate High School is seeking a Cover Assistant to join our support staff on a full-time basis for 39 weeks per year. The appointment offers a salary of £27,726 to £31,284 per annum, with responsibilities across classes and learning support.

You will work under the direction of a class teacher or Head of Department to support pupil progress, assist with planning and delivering learning activities, and help create an inclusive environment for all learners.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at level 9–5.
• HLTA or similar education-related qualification is desirable.
• Experience in education support roles and with planning/ delivering tasks.
• Knowledge of The National Curriculum and literacy/numeracy schemes.

Responsibilities

• Support class teachers or heads of department to implement plans.
• Work with whole classes, individuals or small groups to boost progress.
• Mentor pupils, support social skills and monitor progress.
• Supervise non-lesson activities and reinforce learning activities.
• Provide feedback and help with lesson planning where required.

The Job:

Pleckgate High School seek to appoint a Cover Assistant to work full time over 39 weeks per year. The actual salary for this position is £27,726 to £31,284 per annum.

What does this job do?

1. To work under the direction of the class teacher or in their absence, the Head of Department, to implement planning and assessment, working with whole classes, individual or small groups of pupils in order to achieve high levels of accelerated pupil progress.
2. To support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, promoting the inclusion of all pupils by developing their communication skills, supporting and mentoring as required to manage their behaviour, developing independence and social skills and to take responsibility for monitoring/reporting on the impact of class-based interventions.
3. To provide supervision and guidance and learning opportunities in all non-lesson-based activities.
4. Complement the professional work of the schoolteachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities.
5. Supervision of whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers with agreed lesson plans in place across the school as required.

What are the job requirements?

1. GCSE or Equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics at level 9 – 5.
2. Child Care/NVQ/ HLTA or other relevant qualification (related to education is desirable i.e.: a degree) at level 4.
3. Experience of support work with children in an educational setting.
4. Experience of planning, preparing and delivering agreed work, and supporting programmes for individuals or groups of pupils.
5. Knowledge of The National Curriculum and Schemes of Work in Literacy and Numeracy.
6. Knowledge of how to support the development of social communication and literacy skills, promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and numeracy.
7. Knowledge of how to support pupils with ASD barriers to learning.
8. Ability to work as a member of a class team to deliver and assess planned lessons.
9. Ability to break down given planned tasks into small steps of learning and can give focused feedback on progress made and next steps.
