TeacherActive is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Surrey. This role offers an immediate start and a chance to provide effective classroom support, assisting pupils in 1:1 or small groups to engage with learning and manage behaviour.

You should be patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships, with strong communication and safeguarding in mind. An Enhanced DBS via Update Service is preferred or a willingness to obtain one; competitive daily rates

Teaching Assistant - SEMH School

Location: Surrey

Start Date: Immediate Start

Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Salary: £90 - £115 per day, depending on experience

TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey.

The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant who can provide effective classroom support and help pupils engage positively with their education.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other support staff to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment. You will support pupils both in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small-group basis, helping with learning, behaviour, emotional regulation and general classroom activities.

The successful Teaching Assistant will ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people
• School-based experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant transferable experience
• Confidence supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, calm and resilient approach
• The ability to build professional and positive relationships with pupils
• Good behaviour management skills
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
