Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a confident Teaching Assistant for a specialist SEMH school in Surrey. You will support pupils in classrooms, one-to-one, and small groups, focusing on learning, behaviour management, and emotional regulation.

The role offers competitive daily pay (£90-£120) and long-term opportunities, with a dedicated consultant and access to CPD. Prior SEMH or school-based experience is advantageous, and an Enhanced DBS is required or obtainable.

TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey.

The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant who can provide effective classroom support and help pupils engage positively with their education.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other support staff to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment. You will support pupils both in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small-group basis, helping with learning, behaviour, emotional regulation and general classroom activities.

The successful Teaching Assistant will ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people
• School-based experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant transferable experience
• Confidence supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, calm and resilient approach
• The ability to build professional and positive relationships with pupils
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
