Qualifications

Special Needs Teaching Assistant – SEMH

Location: Surrey

Start Date: Immediate Start

Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Salary: £90–£125 per day, depending on experience

TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant / SEND TA to work within a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey.

The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may also have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma‑related needs and challenging behaviour.

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils to engage with their learning, regulate their emotions and develop positive relationships within the school environment.

The successful Special Needs Teaching Assistant will ideally have:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH and/or SEND
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour and using positive behaviour strategies
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • The ability to build strong and appropriate relationships with pupils
  • Experience providing 1:1 and small-group interventions
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the needs of vulnerable young people
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
