TeacherActive is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey. You will support pupils in classrooms, 1:1 and small-group settings, helping with learning, behaviour and emotional regulation.

We are seeking patient, resilient individuals with strong communication skills who can build positive relationships with pupils and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with children or young people.
  • Confidence supporting SEMH and challenging behaviour.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, calm and resilient approach.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with pupils.

Teaching Assistant – SEMH School

Location: Surrey

Start Date: Immediate Start

Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Salary: £90 – £115 per day, depending on experience

TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey.

The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant who can provide effective classroom support and help pupils engage positively with their education.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other support staff to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment. You will support pupils both in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small-group basis, helping with learning, behaviour, emotional regulation and general classroom activities.

The successful Teaching Assistant will ideally have:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • School-based experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant transferable experience
  • Confidence supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, calm and resilient approach
  • The ability to build professional and positive relationships with pupils
  • Good behaviour management skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
