Job summary

St Joseph's Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby City Centre is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support students and assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons. You will tailor support for individual pupils, help implement education plans, and foster an inclusive, positive classroom environment during term-time.

The role is fixed-term, 32 hours per week, during term time only, with a salary in the £19k–£20k range and pension, CPD and progression opportunities within a Trust of Catholic

Job description

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our students on their journey to success. You’ll work closely with teachers to deliver engaging lessons, provide tailored support for individual students, and foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll:

  • Support pupils with learning needs.
  • Help implement individual education, health, and care plans tailored to each pupil.
  • Adapt resources, learning activities, and communication methods to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils who use alternative communication systems.
  • Encourage participation, independence, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to provide consistent support and achieve the best possible outcomes.

What we’re looking for:

  • Enthusiasm for working with children and helping them achieve their best.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach to supporting both staff and students.
  • A willingness to embrace and promote our Catholic ethos (you don’t need to be Catholic but must respect our values).

This is a fixed term role, working for 32 hours per week, term time only.
