Job summary

Salendine Nook High School seeks an enthusiastic teacher to lead our bespoke Cognition and Learning Provision for students with significant learning needs. The post offers small, highly supported groups and a pivotal role in shaping an innovative provision.

You will deliver an adapted curriculum across KS3/KS4, focusing on literacy, numeracy, communication and independence, with close collaboration with the SENCo, families and external agencies to secure the best outcomes.

Job description

Salendine Nook High School is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly skilled teacher to lead our bespoke Cognition and Learning Provision for students with significant learning needs.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping an innovative provision designed to support some of our most vulnerable learners. You will work with a small cohort of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students who are working significantly below age-related expectations, including students working at pre-Key Stage standards and within the Engagement Model.

Teaching groups are deliberately small, typically ranging from 1:1 to 1:3, allowing for highly personalised teaching, targeted intervention and exceptional levels of support.

The role:

You will deliver a highly adapted and individualised curriculum that develops students' literacy, numeracy, communication and independence skills through structured, evidence-informed approaches.

Key responsibilities include:

• Teaching students with a range of cognition and learning needs through highly personalised programmes.


• Delivering early intervention in phonics, reading, writing and numeracy at Key Stage 3.


• Preparing Key Stage 4 students for key GCSEs, adulthood, post-16 education and employment pathways.


• Supporting students to achieve recognised accreditations, including AQA Entry Level Qualifications, Functional Skills and the AQA Unit Award Scheme.


• Working closely with the SENCo, SEND team, families and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for students.


• Helping to establish and develop a provision that is ambitious, nurturing and centred on student success.

Primary-trained teachers are particularly encouraged to apply, especially those with expertise in early literacy, phonics, numeracy and adaptive teaching. This role would also suit teachers with experience of nurture, intervention, SEMH or specialist SEND settings who are looking to make a significant impact within a mainstream secondary school. An ability to teach a range of subjects would be beneficial.
