Job summary

RGB Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) in the Southampton area. The role focuses on developing mechanical building services designs across diverse projects, with responsibility from feasibility through to detailed design and documentation.

Key duties include design across mechanical systems, site surveys, and producing technical drawings and specifications. A strong emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainable design underpins the team’s work culture

Qualifications

• Experience or a relevant background in mechanical building services engineering.
• An understanding of mechanical building services design principles.
• Competency in AutoCAD (essential).
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider design team.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• A willingness to develop technical knowledge and take on new responsibilities.
• A full UK driving licence (essential).

Responsibilities

• Assist with and undertake mechanical building services design across a range of projects.
• Support site surveys, investigations and technical assessments.
• Design and develop low-temperature hot water heating systems.
• Work on domestic hot and cold water services.
• Contribute to mechanical and natural ventilation design.
• Support the design of refrigerant and chilled water cooling systems.
• Contribute to low and zero-carbon technology design solutions.
• Undertake above-ground drainage design.
• Produce technical design drawings using AutoCAD.
• Assist with design specifications, performance specifications, equipment schedules and technical submissions.
• Complete design calculations using relevant industry software packages.
• Support feasibility studies, condition surveys and technical investigations.
• Contribute to project delivery and work collaboratively with the wider design team.
