Job summary

RGB Recruitment Ltd in the Southampton area is seeking a Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical building services design across a range of projects. You will take ownership from concept through to detailed design and technical documentation, working with clients, contractors and internal teams.

The role covers heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water services, low-temperature hot water systems, drainage, and energy-efficient solutions, with opportunities to apply low

Qualifications

• Strong experience in mechanical building services design.
• Ability to undertake mechanical designs autonomously.
• Experience delivering design work from concept and feasibility through to detailed design.
• Strong technical knowledge across mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic water services.
• Competency in AutoCAD (essential).
• Experience producing technical specifications, equipment schedules and design documentation.
• Experience undertaking design calculations using relevant industry software.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality technical work.
• Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and wider design teams.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• A full UK driving licence (essential).

Responsibilities

• Lead and undertake mechanical building services design across a range of projects.
• Take ownership of mechanical design activities from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and technical documentation.
• Carry out site surveys, investigations and technical assessments.
• Design and develop low-temperature hot water heating systems.
• Design domestic hot and cold water services.
• Design mechanical and natural ventilation systems.
• Design refrigerant and chilled water cooling systems.
• Develop solutions incorporating low and zero-carbon technologies.
• Undertake above-ground drainage design.
• Produce technical design drawings using AutoCAD.
• Prepare design specifications, performance specifications, equipment schedules and technical submissions.
• Undertake design calculations using relevant industry software.
• Contribute to project management and contract administration.
• Lead or support condition surveys, feasibility studies and technical investigations.
• Work collaboratively with clients, contractors and wider project teams to support effective project delivery.
• Contribute to the technical quality and development of the consultancy's mechanical design services.
