Job summary

Balfour Beatty VINCI is seeking a Surveying engineer to carry out surveys, set out and dimensional control across HS2 construction sites in the Midlands and Birmingham area.

The role requires experience with GPS, robotic total stations, AutoCAD and data processing, delivering accurate survey records to support design and construction teams. Flexible working options available and a focus on health and safety.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Surveying, Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in engineering surveying within major infrastructure, civil engineering or rail projects.
• Proficiency in surveying equipment including GPS, robotic total stations and data collectors.
• Knowledge of survey data processing software and AutoCAD.
• Understanding of construction drawings, specifications and engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Carry out engineering surveys, setting out and dimensional control across construction sites.
• Establish and maintain survey control networks to support project delivery.
• Verify design information and ensure works are constructed per drawings and specs.
• Conduct as-built surveys and produce accurate survey records and reports.
• Support Design and Engineering teams with survey data for design development and construction planning.
• Utilise GPS, total stations, laser scanners and other surveying equipment to collect and analyse data.
• Manage and process survey information using relevant software packages.
• Assist with monitoring structures, earthworks and infrastructure to identify movement or deviations.
• Ensure survey records are maintained per project requirements and quality procedures.
• Work with construction, engineering and design teams to resolve technical issues.
• Promote and maintain health, safety and environmental compliance.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
