Job summary

HS2 Ltd is seeking a qualified site professional to join the Midlands region in Birmingham. You will lead planning for delivery of works, coordinate resources and logistics, and supervise day-to-day site activities from construction through to close-out, ensuring contract requirements are met.

You will mentor the on-site team, coordinate with subcontractors, and advise the commercial team on NEC notices and instructions. Strong technical knowledge and regulatory awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree holder or equivalent.
• Proven experience in managing subcontractors and working with a major contractor.
• Excellent team player and team leader with strong coordination.
• Strong on technical details and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and planning for the delivery of the works, including resources, logistics, access, and construction readiness documentation.
• Manage, coordinate, and supervise day-to-day site activities from construction through to close out and ensure works meet contract requirements.
• Manage, supervise, train and mentor site team members to maintain operational control and support their development.
• Oversee site supervision including subcontractors’ performance and alignment with project milestones.
• Manage internal and external interfaces with regards to the execution of the works, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
• Advise and assist the commercial team in the preparation of all necessary contractual notices and instructions (under NEC contract).
• Review, approve and manage the correct implementation of Method Statements Risk Assessments, and undertake periodic reviews.
• Prepare Temporary Works Design Briefs and Coordinate Temporary Works on site.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location:Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Key Accountabilities

• Lead the preparation and planning for the delivery of the works, including resources, logistics, access, and construction readiness documentation.
• Manage, coordinate, and supervise the day-to-day site activities from construction through to close out and ensure the works are performed to the contract requirements.
• Manage, supervise, train and mentor the site team members to maintain high levels of operational control and support their professional development.
• Oversee the site supervision including subcontractors’ performance and make sure alignment with project objectives and milestones
• Manage the internal and external interfaces with regards to the execution of the works, ensuring effective communication and coordination
• Advise and assist the commercial team in the preparation of all necessary contractual notices and instructions (under NEC contract)
• Review, approve and manage the correct implementation of Method Statements Risk Assessments, and undertake periodic reviews.
• Prepare Temporary Works Design Briefs and Coordinate Temporary Works on site
• Engineering Degree holder, or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth
• Proven experience in managing subcontractors and working with a major contractor
• Excellent team player and team leader, reporting progress to the Project Manager / Construction Manager
• Highly organised with good management and coordination skills
• Strong on technical details and with good communication skills
• Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and current legislation and standards associated with all engineering aspects
