Job summary

HS2 Ltd. is seeking a Quality and Lean professional to support QA reviews, define improvements across IPTAN, and lead Lean projects within major rail infrastructure delivery.

The role requires Diploma/Degree level qualification or equivalent, formal Lean/Six Sigma competence, and strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 standards. The successful candidate will develop plans, create documentation, and drive improvements across multi-disciplinary teams in a high-profile Midlands railway programme.

Qualifications

• Qualified to Diploma level/Degree level or similar equivalent and/or experience.
• Formal Lean competence, (Six Sigma or equivalent).
• Knowledge of management system standards, ISO 9001:2015.

Responsibilities

• Support Quality and Assurance reviews to identify systemic improvement opportunities and lessons learned.
• Work with the Enabling Quality team to determine areas for improvement across the IPTAN.
• Produce project plans to define and manage quality assurance Lean projects.
• Produce processes and procedures to document identified improvements.
• Embed improvement projects into the business to become a business-as-usual process.

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location:

Based at Fort Dunlop – this location sits on the eastern edge of Birmingham, adjacent to the M6 motorway, providing excellent transport links into the city and across the region. Fort Dunlop serves as a key hub within IPT Area North, supporting operations that span multiple sublots and regional activities. Its strategic position makes it an important point for coordination and access, with proximity to major infrastructure routes ensuring connectivity to both the Central Region and wider project areas.

Key Accountabilities:

• Support Quality and Assurance reviews to identify systemic improvement opportunities and lessons learned.
• Working with the Enabling Quality team to determine areas for improvement across the IPTAN
• Working with the wider teams to articulate and define areas for improvement, setting boundaries, timescale, budget and ownership parameters
• Experienced in producing project plans to define and manage quality assurance Lean projects
• Experience of articulating problems/issues and defining strategies to drive improvements
• Experienced in workshopping issues/requirements with multiple disciplined teams, all levels of the project to define clear strategies and associated procedures to control element of works
• Experience of producing process and associated procedures to document the improvements identified
• Experience of taking improvement projects and embedding them within the business to become a business-as-usual process

• Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with an ability to build strong relationships at all levels across a multi-discipline organisation.
• Experience of delivering Lean projects, in a multi discipline project environment
• Knowledge of management system standards, ISO 9001:2015.
• Qualified to Diploma level/Degree level or similar equivalent and or experience.
• Formal Lean competence, (Six Sigma or equivalent)
• Highly developed analytical skills / experience
• Highly developed communication and influencing skills.
• Relevant Construction / Civil Engineering / Railway Industry experience within a Project environment.
