Job summary

The Society of St James (SSJ) Alcohol Service in Southampton is seeking a Support Worker to join our busy team. You will work 37 hours per week (Mon–Fri) with one weekend every five weeks, supporting clients with recovery goals in a structured housing setting.

The role requires compassion, reliability, and the ability to work in a person-centred way. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary service delivery and help clients progress toward independent living.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with at-risk clients in a supportive setting.
• Experience in person-centred service delivery is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with clients to achieve goals identified in support plans.
• Produce risk assessments and record all incoming monies per procedures.
• Promote recovery and healthy lifestyle choices for service users.
• Deliver group work activities in the centre, including cooking and budgeting.
• Support service users to participate in activities and life-skills.

The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. The Impact You'll Make

The Alcohol Service provides a range of support for 24 clients, across four shared houses, who are working to overcome long-term alcohol dependency and gain new life skills that will support them to return to living independently in their own accommodation.

Who We're Looking For

We would like someone who is confident and able to work directly with clients, achieve goals identified in support plans and produce risk assessments. Account for and record all incoming monies in accordance with the Society's Financial Procedures.

Promote the concept of recovery to service users emphasising the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and personal responsibility for their own long-term health outcomes.

Participate in all aspects of service delivery to ensure that all contractual requirements are met.

Help facilitate and deliver group work activities in the centre, including cooking, budgeting and other life-skills, and encourage and support service users to participate in all the activities

Essential Skills and Qualities

Are you a strong team player, who is driven and able to share new ideas to find solutions to problems?

Do you work in a person-centred way, and are you able to work cooperatively to find flexible ways to enable clients to meet their needs?

Do you have knowledge of benefits systems, legislation and criteria?

Do you want to support vulnerable people to improve their lives?

Are you able to work a scheduled shift pattern, which includes some weekends and bank holidays?

Please note due to the nature of the role you are required to have access to a vehicle which can be used for work purposes.
