Job summary

Havencare in Cornwall is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to provide one-to-one support across Penzance, Newlyn and Newquay. You will build rapport, tailor support to individual needs, and assist with daily activities and appointments.

Experience with brain injury or autism is beneficial; full training is provided. We offer full-time and part-time contracts with various shift patterns, including sleep-ins where required.

Qualifications

  • Clean UK driver's license (manual) required.
  • Ability to work with individuals with learning disabilities, autism or brain injuries.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and alone with good communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to individuals, matching needs and choices.
  • Assist with personal care, medications, appointments and daily activities.
  • Promote safety, independence and well-being with a proactive approach.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate with colleagues and families.

About the Role

The roles we want you for are our single support services, these services are all one to one giving a fantastic opportunity to build a great rapport and work closely with our wonderful individuals. The support is designed to match and meet the needs and choices of those we support, putting them at the heart of their own support.

Beneficial having experience and understanding of acquired brain injury and autism, epilepsy would be beneficial, but training is provided.

Each individual we support has their own likes and dislikes from Avid Cornish pirates fan (not missing a home game for over 4 years) and sports nut in general, to someone enjoying the quieter side of life and their arts and crafts in their summer house, or do you fancy becoming a café Connoisseur going for cake and coffee or a meal out at local hotels and cafes. Playing gold at a local driving range or supporting someone to go to church and talking about history and politics, we have something for you.

Some personal care maybe required with the individuals supported, as well as support with medication, attending appointments and meetings where needed, supporting giving advice and guidance, prompting and working in a pro-active way to help individuals’ life the best life they can.

We have a range of part-time and full-time contracts available and full training provided.

Shift patterns very between services with a basic idea as follows:

JR Penzance: 10am start until 10pm sleep-in and finish at 10am the following day, this is their choice of shift pattern

SS Newlyn: 08.15-10pm sleep-in finishing 08.15am

CB Newquay: more flexibility which can be discussed following successful interview based on daily placement and needs.

About you:
  • You will need to have a clean and full UK Driver’s License (manual) as 2 services have their own mobility car that they will require you to use.
  • Penzance prefers to work with males but open to females, someone a few years older than him in their 30’s.
  • Newlyn female support is preferred as his choice
  • Newquay Female support preferred but can be male
  • They must be responsible, reliable, a good listener, understanding, good timekeeping the individuals supported like reliability and regularity.
  • A calm-natured, patient and good-humored person with an awareness of your emotional resilience
  • Confident to support distressed behaviour
  • You will need to be confident working alone, be consistent, comfortable to explore what he is communicating and ensuring good communication with your colleagues and family.
  • Happy to navigate systems used efficiently and fulfil your responsibilities of the role
