Job summary

Ashdown Care in South Tyneside (Jarrow) is seeking a Support Worker to join our team. This role covers 26 hours per week, includes sleep-ins and alternate weekends, and requires a UK driving licence. You will support adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, ensuring safety, promoting independence, and delivering person-centred care with compassion.

Applicants must be female due to the Equality Act 2010. We do not offer sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • Must have experience with challenging behaviour in care settings.
  • UK driving licence held.
  • Female applicants only due to Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1.
  • Experience with adults with learning disabilities, autism.

Responsibilities

  • Support service users with personal care and daily living activities.
  • Assist with activities, sensory needs, and triggers to promote well-being.
  • Work on communication, safety, and individualised care plans.

Contracted hours: 26 hours per week
Salary:£16.24 per hour
Required:
  • Must have experience with challenging behaviour, working in a 2 - 1 basis
  • Experience with adults with learning disabilities, autism
  • UK driving licence, vehicle not required

  • Able to support sensory needs and triggers.
  • Outgoing and passionate about improving the service user's quality of life.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support, risk assessments & de-escalation strategies.
  • Proactive and motivated to look for new activities and experiences for the people we support.
  • Strong communication skills
