Ashdown Care is seeking a compassionate Senior Support Worker in Gateshead to lead shifts and mentor a team delivering person-centred support for a young gentleman with learning disabilities and PBS needs.

Role requires flexibility across evenings, weekends, nights and sleep-ins, with strong English communication and safeguarding expertise. Join a values-driven, family-run care provider active in the Northeast.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Senior Support Worker in adult social care.
• Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Adult Care (or willingness to work towards).
• Experience with learning disabilities, autism and PBS.

Responsibilities

• Monitor wellbeing and escalate safeguarding concerns promptly.

Full-time: 42 hours per week, working a 3/4 shift pattern with sleep-in opportunities Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

We’re looking for a compassionate and experienced Senior Support Worker to join our dedicated team, supporting a young gentleman with a learning disability, complex health needs, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) requirements.

This isn’t your typical support worker role — we’re looking for someone who enjoys being active, has a great sense of humour, and can build positive, meaningful relationships, while leading a team to deliver high-quality, person-centred support.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Support Worker, you’ll lead shifts and mentor your team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care in line with PBS plans and care plans, promoting independence, choice, and dignity. This is a 24/7 service requiring flexibility across evenings, weekends, nights, and bank holidays, with community support delivered at a 3:1 staffing ratio where required.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Senior Support Worker in adult social care
• Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Adult Care (or willingness to work towards)
• Experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and behaviours of concern using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
• Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Best Interest decision-making
• Confident leading shifts and providing guidance to support staff
• Experience completing care plans, risk assessments, incident reports, and MAR charts
• Medication administration competency
• Excellent spoken and written English, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins
• Experience in supported living services
• Training in PBS, safeguarding, medication, and moving & handling
• Experience liaising with families, health professionals, and multidisciplinary teams
