Job summary

Potens is hiring a Support Worker for Paxton House in Borrowash, near Derby. The role supports people aged 18–35 with learning disabilities, challenging behaviours, non-verbal communication and autistic spectrum disorders. The job includes personal care, life-skills support, and various activities.

Shifts run 7am–9pm with early shifts, long days, evenings and some waking nights; weekend and bank holidays required. Females only due to service needs; sponsorship not available.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a social care setting.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care is desirable but not essential.
  • Driver preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promoting the independence of the people we support.
  • Key working and supporting with general life skills.
  • Personal care, cooking and cleaning.
  • Participating in activities chosen by the people we support.
  • In-house activities and community outings.
  • Shifts between 7 am–9 pm; includes early shifts, long days, evenings; occasional wake nights; weekends and bank holidays.

At Paxton House, we support people between the ages of 18-35 with a range of needs, including learning disabilities, behaviours that are perceived to be challenging, non-verbal communication, and/or autistic spectrum disorders.

What you'll be doing:

  • Promoting the independence of the people we support.
  • Key working and supporting with general life skills.
  • Will involve personal care, cooking and cleaning.
  • Taking part in the chosen activities of the people we support.
  • In house activities - baking, art/crafts, board games, sensory activities, reading etc.
  • Outdoor activities - The people who we support enjoy active lifestyles; walking, swimming, golf, pubs, trampolining, lunch out, keeping in touch with families, days out, shopping etc.
  • Shifts will take place between the hours between 7 am - 9 pm and will involve a variation of early shifts, long days and evenings. Will also involve some waking nights when needed. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required.
  • Full flexibility needed.

Who you are:

  • You will have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a social care setting.
  • We are looking for a dedicated, passionate, kind, and caring person who is willing to participate in the chosen activities of the people we support.
  • You will need to be flexible with a 'can do' attitude.
  • NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care is desirable but not essential.
  • Females only due to the needs of the service.
  • Drivers preferred.
