Job summary

Continuity of Care Services is seeking a kind and patient Support Worker to assist a young man in his 30s with cerebral palsy and complex needs at home. He is non-verbal and uses a specialist iPad to communicate; you will build trust, share activities, and help him enjoy experiences while staying calm and respectful.

We value reliability, observance, and a good sense of humour. Training is provided, with shifts Mon, Thu, Fri 11:00–18:00 and occasional Saturdays; a flexible, friendly team

Job description

Shifts available: Monday, Thursday, Friday 11:00am- 6:00pm with occasional Saturday's (Maternity Cover)

The rota is scheduled in advance and operates on a two- week alternating cycle:

Week 1: Monday, Thursday, Friday

Week 2: Monday, Friday

We ask that there is some flexibility to cover sickness and annual leave within the team.

Eligibility Criteria for a Support Worker

• Previous experience of cerebral palsy, autism or complex disability would be beneficial, but full training can be provided
• We are looking for a support worker who is patient, observant, reliable with a good sense of humour and plenty of common sense
• Please note you must be eligible to work in the UK. We do not offer sponsorship

About the Support Worker Role:

We are looking for a kind, capable and good- humoured person to support a young man in his 30's with cerebral palsy and complex needs in his own home. He is non-verbal, but communicates using specialist software on his iPad, which gives him a voice and enables him to express what he wants, thinks and feels.

He enjoys his iPad, music, getting out and about, and spending time with people who see him as a person first and the disability second.

He very much has his own personality, opinions and sense of humour, so we are looking for a support worker who will take the time to listen to him and become familiar with the way he communicates. Building a genuine and meaningful relationship is important, as we want someone who can support him to enjoy his time, share experiences, have fun, and develop a positive and trusting relationship together. He can sometimes become frustrated or distressed. It is important that the support worker remains calm, patient, understanding and recognising that the behaviour is a form of communication and shouldn't be taken personally.

Previous experience of cerebral palsy, autism or complex disability would be helpful, but finding the right person is more important to us than having an impressive CV. Training can be provided.
