Job summary

Active Care Group in Truro is seeking a patient, compassionate and reliable Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to a male with complex needs in a consistent care team.

You will assist with personal care, develop independence and daily living skills, and help him access the community while using coping strategies to manage anxiety. Regular shifts and a stable pattern are offered on a flexible zero-hours contract.

Qualifications

  • Patience, compassion and reliability are essential.
  • Experience supporting individuals with autism, dyspraxia or mental health challenges is beneficial.
  • Willingness to provide personal care and accompany to community activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to a male in Truro.
  • Support with personal care, including shower and hair wash weekly.
  • Help build self-esteem, independence and daily living skills.
  • Assist with accessing the community and managing anxiety.
  • Promote positive engagement and communication with others.
  • Use coping strategies and de-escalation plans.
  • Provide reassurance during anxiety or distress and allow time to process situations.
  • Support attendance at counselling and community services promoting mental wellbeing.
  • Work to reduce risks related to deterioration in mental health and thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
  • Promote choice, dignity, independence and achievement.

Do you have the patience, compassion and understanding to help someone build their confidence, develop independence and take positive steps towards managing everyday life? We are looking for a patient, compassionate and reliable Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to a male in Truro. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping an individual build confidence, develop independence and achieve a better quality of life.

What you'll be doing:
  • Supporting him with personal care, including a shower and hair wash at least once a week.
  • Helping to build self-esteem, confidence and independence.
  • Supporting the development of practical daily living skills.
  • Helping him access the community and develop strategies to manage anxiety in community settings.
  • Encouraging positive engagement and communication with other people.
  • Using agreed coping strategies, traffic-light systems and de-escalation plans.
  • Providing reassurance and support when he becomes anxious, overwhelmed or distressed.
  • Allowing time and patience for him to process situations and talk through incidents of anxiety or stress.
  • Supporting attendance at counselling and other community-based services that promote mental wellbeing.
  • Working proactively to reduce risks associated with deterioration in mental health, including thoughts of self-harm and suicide.
  • Promoting choice, dignity, independence and a positive sense of achievement.

Shifts availiable: 6 hours a day - 5 days a week

In this role, you’ll support one individual with complex needs as part of a consistent care team, with regular weekly shifts and rotas planned in advance. While the role is offered on a flexible zero-hours contract, the work is ongoing and typically provides a stable working pattern with the same client.
