Job summary

Alpadia is hiring a Welfare Officer in a UK summer camp to safeguard and support students across residential provision. You will lead welfare teams, ensure safeguarding and health & safety compliance, manage accommodation, finances, and student welfare records, and coordinate with internal teams.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and experience in safeguarding, with the ability to work long hours in a dynamic camp environment. An industry-competitive salary is offered.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a pastoral, welfare, safeguarding, or residential management role with children or young people.
• Experience in a summer camp, boarding school, or youth programme setting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage safeguarding cases, welfare incidents, and behavioural issues professionally and sensitively.
• Excellent understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety procedures.
• Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children, staff, and parents.
• Confidential information handling and accurate record-keeping.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills under pressure.
• Knowledge of emergency and incident management in a residential environment.

Responsibilities

• Prioritise student safety by implementing Safeguarding and Health & Safety policies with Camp Manager.
• Act as Designated Safeguarding Staff and care for sick students; arrange medical responses.
• Manage attendance registers and student presence.
• Liaise with Customer Services, Sales and external stakeholders on welfare matters.
• Communicate transfer plans to Group Leaders for stress-free departures.
• Lead welfare training and induction for staff; train and support welfare team.
• Create and distribute Welfare Officer rota; line-manage Welfare Officers & Night Supervisors.
• Manage overnight communications and information flow to staff.
• Coordinate checks-in and pocket money administration; support camp operations.
• Handle accommodation allocations, requests, and complaints.
• Support marketing uploads, catering calculations, dietary communications, daily reports.
