Job summary
Rail Delivery Group is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the RDG Engineering, ERTMS and Digital Systems Team and to sit within the DFTO Rolling Stock team. The role focuses on designing and establishing Fleet Engineering capability for DFTO and GBR, while acting as Professional Head for RDG engineering support activities.
You will work with senior stakeholders across industry, influence policy, and shape the future of UK rail engineering while managing budgets and graduate schemes.
Qualifications
- Qualifications equivalent to degree level in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer
- Fellowship of a Chartered Engineering Institution
Responsibilities
- Act as the Professional Head for the RDG engineering support activities.
- Advise, alert, advocate and act on behalf of the senior engineering community in GB rail.
- Lead technical policy for RDG/DFTO/GBR on engineering matters including interoperability, safety and standards.
- Influence the future strategic direction of technical leadership for GB and European rail.
- Ensure efficient delivery of engineering support-related benefits to RDG/DFTO, GBR and industry partners.
- Support the development and rollout of digital signalling technology with Network Rail and RoSCos.
- Provide strategic direction and line management of engineering teams, including appraisals and leave planning.
- Act as the nominated partner in senior engineering leadership forums.
- Prepare and manage the RDG engineering budget and support DFTO budgeting arrangements.
- Be accountable for the Railway Engineering Graduate Scheme development today and for GBR-related training.
