Job summary

Leonardo UK Basildon is seeking a Head of Engineering Projects to lead complex technical programs from concept to production. You will shape engineering capability, drive strategic delivery, and mentor teams.

This senior role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on delivery to ensure excellence across ISP. This position requires proven leadership in a regulated environment, strong communication, and a track record of solving complex problems.

Qualifications

• A degree in Engineering or related scientific discipline.
• Proven experience in a senior engineering role managing complex projects in a regulated environment.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Strategic thinker with a track record of solving complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and oversight across all programmes, motivating engineering teams to achieve excellence.
• Shape and direct planning, resourcing, prioritisation, execution, and delivery of engineering projects with accountability for technical outcomes, schedule and cost.
• Build a high‑performing engineering organisation with proactive mentoring and capability development.
• Champion the evolution of engineering capability through cutting‑edge technologies and modern methodologies.
• Collaborate with internal disciplines to forecast skills needs and develop robust succession plans.
• Forge strong relationships with internal teams, customers and partners to ensure aligned, seamless delivery.
• Apply Life Cycle Management processes across bids and projects and ensure governance activities.
• Maintain safety, security, and quality standards across engineering teams.
• Lead budgeting decisions, optimise spend, and manage risk across programmes.
• Support the Sector VP in monthly project reviews, demand reviews, and related governance activities.
