AWE plc is hiring a Commercial Capability Manager in Reading, Berkshire. The role focuses on developing and embedding a full capability framework across competencies, training, development and mentoring, with responsibility to identify skill gaps and tailor development plans in collaboration with department heads.

The position offers a hybrid pattern, onsite parking in Reading and a strong emphasis on professional development, with a comprehensive benefits package and a 9‑day working fortnight.

Qualifications

• Proven professional experience in procurement/commercial functions.
• Experience in HR or people functions focusing on skills and development.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing abilities.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong management and analytical capabilities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage relationships with external bodies (MOD, DNO, CAB) and explore cross-government collaboration.
• Define the Commercial competency framework and career pathways.
• Plan and manage Commercial training and training providers.
• Collaborate with HR/talent teams to align development processes and tools.
• Oversee the Commercial skills development program and budget.
• Understand market trends to define Commercial capability requirements.
• Analyze skills gaps and plan bridge programs across Commercial.
• Roll out a Commercial mentoring program to grow internal talent.
