Job summary

STERIS Instrument Processing is recruiting for a Sterile Services Technician in the United Kingdom. You will join an entry‑level role with world‑class training to set you on a defined career pathway in surgical instrument sterilisation.

You will work a 12‑week training period with initial hours Mon-Fri 8am‑4pm, followed by shifts Tue–Sat 6am‑2pm. The role offers a competitive annual salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including training and progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Educated to a good general standard.
• Basic end-user IT skills to operate track and traceability IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Follow a highly regulated end to end sterilization/decontamination process for surgical instruments to ensure safe reuse.
• Ensure preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, instruments) by decontamination, inspection, assembly and packing to predefined quality standards.
• Rigorously check, wash, and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specs.
• Safely operate and monitor washers, ultrasonic and steriliser equipment.
• Record repairs and missing instruments on the Tracking and Traceability system (SynergyTrak) and return repaired items to stock.
• Maintain accurate stock coding and traceability for instruments and equipment.

Training and Working Pattern

• 12 weeks training, the first few weeks you will work on Monday-Friday at 8am-4pm.

Thereafter, training will continue during your regular shift hours which will be;

• Tuesday - Saturday, 6am - 2pm

What You Will Do

• Following a highly regulated end to end sterilization/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
• Ensuring the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
• Rigorously checking, washing, laying up and packing sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
• Safely operating and monitoring machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
• Ensuring that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
• Ensuring that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship! This is a 12-15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the Healthcare profession! It is universally applicable outside of STERIS! Completed on the job, you are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career!
