Job summary

STERIS Instrument Processing is hiring an entry-level Sterile Services Technician in the United Kingdom. You will follow a regulated end-to-end sterilization process for NHS and private hospital instruments, with world-class training and a defined career path.

The role includes 12 weeks of training and subsequent shifts including weekends; annual salary starts at £25,272 with a 5% performance bonus and extra allowances for overtime or London locations, plus generous leave and training

  • Basic end-user IT skills to operate track and traceability IT systems.

Responsibilities

  • Follow a highly regulated end-to-end sterilization/decontamination process for surgical instruments used in NHS/private hospitals.
  • Ensure preparation of sterile consumables by decontamination, inspection assembly and packing to predefined quality standards.
  • Rigorous checking, washing, and packing of theatre instrument sets to meet contract specs.
  • Safely operate and monitor washers, disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilisers.
  • Record repairs and missing instruments on the Tracking and Traceability system.
  • Return repaired instruments to stock or appropriate coded sets.

We are currently recruiting for a Sterile Services Technician vacancy. This is an excellent opportunity to join the business at an entry-level and receive world-class training to get you on to a defined career pathway.

Training and Working Pattern
  • 12 weeks training, the first few weeks you will work on Mon - Weds, 9am - 6pm (Weds finish at 530pm), thereafter, training will continue during your regular shift hours which will be;
  • Sat & Sun, 7am - 8pm (25 hours per week)
What You Will Do
  • Following a highly regulated end to end sterilization/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
  • Ensuring the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
  • Rigorously checking, washing, laying up and packing sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
  • Safely operating and monitoring machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
  • Ensuring that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
  • Ensuring that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust's appointed person.

Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship! This is a 12-15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the Healthcare profession! It is universally applicable outside of STERIS! Completed on the job, you are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career!
