Job summary

STERIS Instrument Processing is hiring an entry-level Sterile Services Technician to support the end-to-end sterilisation of instruments used in NHS and private hospitals. The role includes comprehensive training to develop a defined career pathway, with emphasis on accuracy and patient safety.

You will join a team delivering high-quality infection prevention solutions, receive structured education, and progress within a supportive, diverse environment.

Qualifications

• Educated to a good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.
• Basic end-user IT skills to operate track and traceability IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Following a highly regulated end to end sterilization/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
• Ensuring the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
• Rigorously checking, washing, laying up and packing sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
• Safely operating and monitoring machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
• Ensuring that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
• Ensuring that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Training and Working Pattern

• 12 weeks training, the first few weeks you will work on Monday - Friday at 9am - 5pm, thereafter, training will continue during your regular shift hours which will be;
• 0 Hours Contract

What You Will Do

Required Experience

• Educated to a good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.

• An annual salary of £25,272 plus a 5% performance bonus, and generous shift allowances if you work overtime/unsociable hours! Plus, a higher cost of living allowance if you work in London.

Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship! This is a 12-15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the Healthcare profession! It is universally applicable outside of STERIS! Completed on the job, you are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career!
