Workplace Classification: Hybrid — this position does not require full-time onsite presence but requires onsite work up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT software solutions for motorsports, utilizing cloud infrastructure and software standards to enhance interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and race teams, aiming for podium finishes in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sports car racing.
The Role: The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery, with expertise in scalable cloud systems, solution architecture, and hands-on project contributions. The role involves building motorsports software to give GM a competitive edge, focusing on aerodynamics systems design.
Responsibilities include leading development teams on aero-thermal applications, designing solution architectures, ensuring modern application design, collaborating across teams to identify and fill value gaps, resolving technical blockers, and managing story delivery through Scrum methodologies.
Qualifications: Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field; expert experience in CFD, microservices, data streaming; full-stack application development; cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP); 5+ years in microservices; 2+ years in web services; containerization with Kubernetes/Docker; understanding of devops, CI/CD; agile experience.
People Skills: Critical thinking, solution-oriented mindset, strong communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree, aerodynamics knowledge, AI/ML expertise, VR development, data streaming tech, cross-platform optimization, UI/UX design, leadership experience, knowledge of system models, and a passion for motorsports.
