Job Description:

Workplace Classification: Hybrid - this position does not require full-time onsite presence but requires onsite work up to 3 times per week at Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT software solutions for motorsports. Using cloud infrastructure and software standards, the team enhances interactions between GM Engineering, Motorsports, and Race teams, supporting NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA teams to achieve race wins.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery, requiring expert-level technical skills, hands-on project contributions, architecture development, and experience with scalable cloud systems. The role focuses on building motorsports software to give GM a competitive edge, particularly in aerodynamics systems design.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead development and maintenance of GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD models and visualization.
  2. Design solution architectures and lead team consensus.
  3. Focus on modern application design, modular frameworks, and loose system integration.
  4. Identify and fill value gaps within the aerodynamics team with innovative solutions.
  5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project delivery.
  6. Manage scrum story delivery and contribute to implementation, testing, and deployment.
  7. Collaborate with team members to support project success.
  8. Deliver reliable and self-managed contributions to the solution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience in full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • 5+ years in microservices development; 2+ years in web services design.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, agile methodologies.

People Skills:

  • Critical thinking, user-centered solution creation, and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong technical decision-making and knowledge of distributed applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, AI & ML, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, cross-platform development, UI/UX design, system architecture, data serialization, and a passion for motorsports.
