Job summary

Oxford Ionics, now part of IonQ, is building the next generation of quantum systems with a focus on secure, observable infrastructure. We seek a Staff Platform Engineer to join the Quantum System Infrastructure team in Oxford, driving platform strategy across on-site and cloud environments.

You will lead central platform initiatives, accelerate CI/CD, and ensure robust deployment and rollback capabilities for rapid delivery to customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a Platform, DevOps or Site Reliability role.
• Experience running Linux in production.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform or OpenTofu.
• Running containerised workloads on Kubernetes in production.
• Building and speeding up CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.

Responsibilities

• Run and evolve the Kubernetes platform behind quantum systems and the release process.
• Make CI faster and more reliable for all engineers.
• Make systems observable with dashboards and alerts as code.
• Provide ready-to-use remote development environments on-site or in the cloud.
• Keep infrastructure secure, recoverable and reproducible as code.
• Lead technical decisions and write runbooks to enable self-service changes.
