IonQ in Oxford is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join the Quantum System Infrastructure team. You will shape clusters, pipelines, monitoring and remote development environments for on‑site and cloud deployments, collaborating with physicists and engineers to build the world’s most advanced quantum systems.

You will lead strategic platform projects, ensure secure, observable infrastructure, and contribute to rapid software-to-system delivery with a strong emphasis on DevSecOps practices in

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience running Linux infrastructure in production, ideally on‑prem and cloud.
• Infrastructure as code using Terraform or OpenTofu.
• Running containerised workloads on Kubernetes in production.
• Building and speeding up CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions.
• Observability, security and rollback planning as part of delivery.

Responsabilités

• Run and evolve the Kubernetes platform behind quantum systems in production and on‑prem/cloud.
• Make CI faster and reliable across hardware-in-the-loop and build runners.
• Define dashboards and alerts as code for hardware components and observability platform.
• Provide ready‑to‑use remote development environments on‑site or in the cloud.
• Keep infrastructure secure, recoverable, and reproducible as code.
• Lead technical decisions and write runbooks/guides for platform changes.
