Job summary

DeepL in London is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to own and evolve the compute platform that powers our AI and research workloads. You’ll design, build and operate production-grade Kubernetes clusters across AWS and on-prem, shaping the hybrid infrastructure that underpins product and research teams.

You will lead reliability initiatives, drive platform standards and observability, and mentor engineers across the infrastructure track.

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on Kubernetes expertise across full lifecycle.
• Experience in public cloud or on‑prem infrastructure, with AWS preferred.
• Networking & Linux depth to debug container to network edge.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform or equivalent, GitOps with ArgoCD.
• Software engineering in Go or Python for building tooling.
• Track record of technical ownership spanning several teams.
• Strong incident-management and reliability-engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of reliability, capacity and cost efficiency of DeepL's compute infrastructure across AWS and on‑prem.
• Shape the platform's architecture with strong technical positions and peer alignment.
• Design, build and operate production-grade Kubernetes clusters across cloud and on‑prem infrastructure.
• Deepen the hybrid model by unifying workloads across on‑prem hardware and cloud.
• Define infrastructure-as-code and platform standards with improved observability and security.
• Mentor engineers across the infrastructure track and raise technical standards.
• Build consensus across engineering teams and translate it into shipped changes.
• Lead incident response for hybrid infrastructure and sustain a long-term on‑call rotation.
